Writing in Paragraphs (ʘ ͜ʖ ʘ)

Name: Grace      Date:23/9/19

WALT: Write in paragraphs

Personal goal: Use a good amount of punctuation

Subject of paragraph: Cheerleading stunts

Cheerleading can be very complicated, especially when you get into higher levels. One of the main parts of cheerleading is stunting. Stunting is when you lift people up and throw them into the air. Some stunts consist of: mini-stunts, baskets, main-stunts and pyramids. There are 5 different roles you can play in a stunt: ‘backbase’, ‘main-base’, ‘secondary- base’, ‘front-base’ and a ‘flyer’.

Different roles

The ‘flyer’ is the one who gets thrown up or lifted into the air, the rest of those people are lifting up the flyer. The ‘backspot’ will be at the back of the flyer on most occasions, holding their ankles or thighs. The main base and the secondary base hold the flyers feet, they will usually hold one foot each with their hands underneath their feet. Sometimes if the flyer is only standing on one foot and holding the other with their hands. The main base will still hold the foot like normal, but the secondary base holds underneath the flyers foot with one hand and with the other they hold underneath the flyers knee. The front base is in front of the flyer, usually holding their shins.

Different types of Stunts

Mini Stunts are where the bases will usually just hold the flyer near waist level or on someone’s shoulders. Mini Stunts are only used in Level 1R and Level 1. A basket is a stunt where you throw the flyer up in the air. While they are in the air  they do some sort of twist or flip (if they are in Level 3-6, if in Level 2 they may only throw them into the air). Baskets are only allowed in Level 2-6. Main Stunt is where the main and secondary bases will usually hold the flyers above their heads (Level 2-6) or at their chest (Level 1-6). When they are holding them at their chest they will only be on one foot with the other by their knee, or holding it in the air in front or behind themselves (sometimes this is the case). Main Stunts are used within all levels. Pyramid is when there are multiple stunts in the air, usually the flyers will do skills that are a level above them and they will have a bracer (a flyer on someone’s shoulders or at chest height, holding the flyer doing a higher level skill).

Thank you for reading this, I hope it makes sense.

15 minute narrative

Last friday we had to write a narrative in 15 minutes with the following punctuation . , ! ? " " ( ) ...
This is the narrative that I wrote. Enjoy :)

They were sitting in class on the last day of school, waiting for the bell to ring. Vanessa sat there on her phone scrolling through Instagram, wishing she was like all the influencers she followed; pretty, blonde, perfect, skinny, tan, the list goes on. Then, she saw one of her friends posts… It was a picture of Vanessa’s boyfriend and Vanessa’s friend, the caption was ‘should’ve had life360’ (an app to track where people are). Vanessa’s boyfriend didn’t have instagram, so he didn’t know that she knew about him cheating on her. Vanessa went over to her friend and started yelling at her, “HOW COULD YOU DO THAT?!” “Do what?” Her friend responded with, “YOU KNOW WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT!” Vanessa ran out of the classroom crying, heading towards her boyfriends class. She stormed in, walked over to him, and slapped him. To be continued...

Why everyone should learn to swim!

WALT: Swim at QEII

For the next two weeks my school is having swimming lessons at QEII everyday.
So I decided to write a exposition about why I think everyone should learn how to swim.

My first reason is that our country is surrounded an ocean. If you ever go to the beach you are most likely to go in the water, which means you will need to know how to swim if you get caught in a rip, or even go out a little deeper than your knees, otherwise you could get in serious trouble. You could get knocked over by a wave, and if your out deep then it won't be very easy to get back up if you can't swim.
The same goes for lakes and rivers, although they are a little different. Lakes get very deep very quickly. One moment the water could be up to your knees, then you slip and the water is over your head. Rivers can be very dangerous because some of them have very fast and strong rapids, which won't be easy to swim in. So you'll have to know how to swim properly.

✰ Christchurch City Council coming into our school ✰

Yesterday Celia and Georgina from the Christchurch City Council came into our class to continue on with our visit a couple of weeks ago. We had a chance to vote for a person we thought that should be the mayor of Christchurch. We also had a fake meeting where Franky, Jesse, Kade and I were skater dudes and had to say to the community board that we thought we should get a skatepark in our area. At the end the community board agreed to build a skatepark even though there were a few people who disagreed with the idea, such as locals who disagreed because of noise and model train engineers who were next door from where the skatepark was gonna be built who were concerned about the security of it, and how the trains were going to get a bunch of graffiti on them. We did a couple other things before it ended, although I don’t have a great memory so I can’t really remember what we did.

If you’ve got this far, thank you for reading !
